A great feast of the Lord
The Entry of the Lord into Jerusalem
Also called Palm Sunday
A week before Pascha, Christ entered Jerusalem, and the people greeted Him with palm branches. The day before, on Lazarus Saturday, the Church remembers how He raised His friend Lazarus from the dead after four days.

The New Calendar (the Greek, Antiochian, Romanian and Bulgarian churches, the OCA and most converts) keeps fixed feasts on the church date; the Old Calendar (the Russian, Serbian and Georgian churches, Jerusalem and Mount Athos) keeps them 13 days later. Pascha and the feasts that follow it are kept on the same day by both.
How the day is kept
The feast opens Holy Week, which leads the faithful to Pascha.
In Greek custom the names of the palm are kept on this day: Vaios, Vagia and Dafni.
