About the Icon Corner Set

Begin the beautiful corner.

Every Orthodox home has a “beautiful corner” (krasny ugol): icons on the east wall, a lamp, a cross. The family prays there each morning and evening, and it is there the priest begins when he comes to sprinkle the house with holy water after Theophany. This set builds that corner: Christ and the Mother of God, your family’s patron saint, and the cross that guards the home.

Why these icons

  • The Vladimir Mother of God: for centuries Russia’s most beloved icon. In 1395, on the day Moscow met this icon, the Mother of God turned Tamerlane back from the city, and families pray before it for the protection of home and country.
  • The Saviour: in Rublev’s gentle Zvenigorod image.
  • The cross over the door: “Save and protect” is the oldest prayer of a Russian home.
For whom

newlyweds, a family moving into a new house, someone received into the Church this year, a college student’s first apartment.
