About the Godparent Set

What the godparent brings.

In the Orthodox Church the godparent answers for the newly baptized before God, and brings the cross they will wear. This set gathers the godparent’s gifts with a patron-saint icon for the family’s prayer corner. The icon holds the saint whose name the child receives, beside the Guardian Angel given to every baptized Christian.

Why it matters

The Church teaches that at baptism each Christian receives a Guardian Angel and a heavenly patron. Godparents pray for their godchild every day of their lives. The icon is the place where that prayer happens.

For whom

godmothers and godfathers (nouna and nouno, krestnaya and krestny), grandparents, and the family of an adult convert being received.
