A feast of the Mother of God
The Entry of the Theotokos into the Temple
The Church remembers the child Mary, brought by her parents Joachim and Anna to the Temple in Jerusalem at the age of three, there to be raised in prayer. It is one of the great feasts that trace the life of the Mother of God, from her Nativity to her Dormition.
The dates
- Kept on
- 21 November (4 December on the Old Calendar)

- Next, Old Calendar
The New Calendar (the Greek, Antiochian, Romanian and Bulgarian churches, the OCA and most converts) keeps fixed feasts on the church date; the Old Calendar (the Russian, Serbian and Georgian churches, Jerusalem and Mount Athos) keeps them 13 days later. Pascha and the feasts that follow it are kept on the same day by both.
How the day is kept
The feast falls in the first week of the Nativity Fast.
Greek name-day calendars keep Maria, Despina and Isodia on this feast.
