St Michael the Archangel medallion
“Who is like God?” The protector of all who stand between others and harm.
Orthodox and Catholic Christians pray to St Michael, the Archangel and Chief Commander of the heavenly hosts, for protection from enemies visible and invisible, for deliverance from fear, and for a peaceful death. Soldiers, police officers and first responders have carried him for centuries.
Why this saint
Michael’s name means “Who is like God?” He cast down the proud Lucifer, and the Church honors him as leader of the heavenly hosts. At Colossae his spring gave speech to a mute girl, and her whole family was baptized. When pagans turned two rivers on his church to destroy it, he split the rock with his staff and the water vanished into it. On Mount Athos he saved a youth thrown into the sea by robbers with a stone around his neck. He is the patron of Kyiv, and Russian priests call him the guardian of the souls of the departed.
